Woven by Nature: A Cedar Basket Weaving Workshop

  • Sea Smart Office 500-610 Main St Vancouver Canada (map)

Embark on a creative journey with Leonard "Tiger" Williams, a distinguished member of the Quatsino First Nation who has dedicated over 20 years to perfecting the art of cedar bark weaving. You will weave your own eco-friendly basket while learning traditional knowledge about the connection between water and cedar.

Leonard's deep connection to nature and ancestral roots paved the way for his artistic journey. With a background in Culturally Modified Trees and Traditional Use Studies, Leonard's artistry reflects a harmonious relationship with the environment. His cedar bark weaving, informed by diverse perspectives, echoes the wisdom of Quatsino ethnographic objects. By studying their forms and patterns, he repatriates lost knowledge to his people.

Start the year by adopting sustainable practices! Cedar baskets are not only timeless crafts but also eco-friendly and sustainable. Only 10 spots are available, so be sure to secure your place now.

ADMISSION: $50 PER PERSON - includes all materials and bannock, a traditional Indigenous bread.
