CIIRVE Boredom and Isolation During COVID-19

By Hailey Cracknell, Marketing Lead, and Nolan Webb, Education Advisor, CIIRVE

Since the start of COVID-19, children have experienced unprecedented school closures. This transition towards online classes features assignments and projects that often need very little social interaction. As the pandemic continues, children also face the uncertainty of a completely altered summer, a new normal, unlike anything they have ever experienced.

Many students grow up exposed not only to the comforting daily routine of school but also a rich extracurricular life. This includes a wide variety of clubs and camps that keep them busy and happily engaged throughout the day. The dramatic shift in their routine has often resulted in them at home with little to do, longing for their close friends and desperate for a new challenge. Now, parents must try and create a day-to-day plan that is both exciting and targeted to their own child’s specific needs. This can be a nearly impossible task on short notice.

During these unprecedented times, CIIRVE believes that it's more important than ever for children to keep a consistent routine. This includes increased social engagement with familiar faces. Seeing friends and teachers helps to re-establish a sense of structure in their lives to minimize stress and maximize their happiness. By keeping children in a regular rhythm, students can more easily recapture that joy of learning while easing their anxieties and the loss of comfort in their day-to-day lives.

A good starting point for a parent is to help arrange a regular video-call with your child’s closest friends. Set them up with an activity similar to what they would usually engage in, such as online board games or a shared art project. A get-together like this, even once or twice a week, can give a child something meaningful to look forward to while adding another layer of stability to their lives.

At CIIRVE we focus on the important skills and strategies that children are not generally exposed to during these pandemic days. We turn isolation and boredom into an opportunity to learn and grow by providing routines that kids can look forward to and parents can trust.

This summer, we’re offering stimulating courses in intriguing academic subjects like Global Adventures, a trip around the world featuring the best of language and culture, The Science of Life, featuring a look at the natural world, and Powerful Public Speakers.

Other examples of how CIIRVE ensures children stay engaged through our multi-faceted approach towards education include:

  • Sea Smart’s rich interactive STEM-themed classes that connect children to the environment

  • Musical theatre featuring the vibrancy of Queen’s Academy

  • Deep connections to the world of music through Musical Expressions

Join us at CIIRVE and let your children re-capture the love of learning.
