From Trees to Seas: Registration Now Closed!

Call 604-358-0163 for last minute registrations

What to expect:

This spring, our after-school program called From Trees to Seas will take place outdoors and we will be learning all about the connections between forest and ocean ecosystems. Each of our classes incorporates fun games and activities to keep students engaged and learning about how to become environmental stewards. We run twice as long as many other after school programs, and visit outdoor locations right by your child’s school!

Topics and Learning Outcomes include:

Layers: I can investigate how light affects where different animals live

Plants: I can explore and identify plants in my environment

Carnivores and Herbivores: I can examine how herbivores have different adaptations to survive

Decomposers: I can analyze how decomposers, consumers and producers all rely on each other

The Salmon Connection: I can identify threats that prevent salmon from providing nutrients to forest systems

The Carbon Cycle: I can think critically about how carbon dioxide affects the acidity of the ocean and creatures that live in it

What is new:

Since we have so many returning Ocean Explorers each term, we always cover new topics and have a new curriculum. We are now introducing a brand new passport that our Ocean Explorers can use to track their knowledge and progression through Sea Smart. Students who complete each term will also graduate with a brand new certificate to show their commitment to ocean conservation. To keep the conversation going on at home, we will be sending adults cool current event stories related to what we are learning in class. Our sale price is less than $25 per 1.75 hour session!

Bursary Program

Sea Smart's mission is to inspire and empower kids to love and protect our oceans. We would love as many kids as possible to participate in our programs and are happy to offer a bursary program for students with financial need or special circumstances. Bursaries are based on a pay-what-you-can system. Proceeds from our Bursary Fund Goodies, go towards funding this program.
